Academic Programs

Academic emphasis is on reading and math. A Special Education Inclusion program incorporates block scheduling and enables special needs students to double their reading instruction and to receive math help during the class regular math time. Six instructional assistants maximize the reading and math emphasis. Reading is guided by the use of a decision making chart that examines assessments to determine reading level placement. The basal reader is the prime source of small group instruction, and a half-hour of follow up exercises is standard practice. Math stresses mastery of basic skills and resolution of word problems.

Curriculum guides exist for English, Spelling, Social Studies, Science, Health, Computer Instruction, Music and Art. We are fortunate to have separate rooms for computer, music and art instruction.
